When to visit Valle de las Ánimas: it is all about the light
Sunrise for the light, sunset for the experience. At first light the low sun catches every spire and throws long shadows — the best hour for photographs, and the reason our sunrise tour exists. At sunset the valley turns orange and, from the ridge, you also watch the city of La Paz change colour below. At midday the light is flat. Any month works — the hour matters more than the season.
Hour by hour
Depending on the season, the sun clears the ridge between 6 and 6:45 and hits the tallest spires first. Long shadows, orange on stone. This is the sunrise tour — arranged the day before with the caretakers at the chain.
Still side light, cooler air, few people. Our day tour is already walking here by now.
Flat light, hard shadows straight down, strong sun. Fine for walking, poor for photos.

Season by season
Dry season · May to September
Clear skies almost every day, cold mornings (0 to 5 °C at dawn), strong sun by 10 am. The ground is firm enough to drive into the middle of the valley — our vehicle takes you right among the spires. The safest bet for photographers and for the sunrise tour.
Rainy season · December to March
Afternoon storms, green at the edges of the valley, mud on the trail — and clouds that drift between the spires, which is something you will not see anywhere else. We walk in instead of driving. Mornings are usually fine: go early and be back by lunch.
Whatever the month: the sun at almost 4,000 m burns in twenty minutes. What to bring is the same all year.
