Nobody else sells this. The first half of our day tour on its own: the valley at first light, a walk between the spires, breakfast — and back at your hotel by nine with the whole day still ahead. Shared when there is a group, private whenever you like.

What the day looks like

About three and a half hours, hotel to hotel. Pickup at 5:30 am, first light on the spires from the ridge, a walk between them, breakfast in the valley, and drop-off by about 9. Shared for $45 when a day tour is confirmed that morning — you join for the sunrise and a second vehicle brings you back after breakfast while the group continues. Private any day, with your own vehicle and guide and as much walking as you want.

    Pickup at your hotel

    Anywhere in the city. It is dark and cold; the vehicle is warm and there is breakfast. 45 minutes to the valley.

  2. 6:15 am
    First light on the spires

    From the ridge, before anyone else is there: the sun clears the mountains and the needles turn orange one by one. The best light of the day, and the reason this tour exists.

  3. ~6:45 am
    Walk between the spires

    The short loop or the ridge viewpoint, at an easy pace. In the dry season the vehicle takes you right into the middle of the valley.

  4. ~8:00 am
    Breakfast

    In the valley, with the light still low. Then we drive you back.

  5. ~9:00 am
    Drop-off at your hotel

    Back before most of the city has had its coffee — the whole day still ahead of you.

Altitude, honestly

The valley sits at about 3,965 m — some 300 m higher than the center of La Paz. If today is your first day in Bolivia, tell us: we walk slower and carry the oxygen next to you rather than in the trunk. Not suitable for wheelchair users, pregnant travelers, and small children without an adult to supervise them.

Booking, payment and cancellation

  • Book up to 12 hours before departure. Sales answer 9 am – 3 pm, every day; operations run 24 h for confirmed passengers.
  • Pay by PayPal, credit or debit card (Stripe), WeTravel, crypto, or cash in La Paz.
  • Travel insurance is required on every tour: our vehicles carry SOAT, Bolivia’s mandatory traffic-accident insurance, which covers accidents involving the vehicle only. All tours are easy to moderate with short trails — but the mountains are the mountains.
  • You pay the full amount when you book, and your booking is confirmed instantly. Shared departures run with a minimum of 2 passengers — if yours is the only booking, we will tell you as early as possible and offer a new date, a private tour, or a full refund.
  • Change your date for free up to 3:00 pm the day before the tour.
  • Cancel within 24 hours of booking for a full refund, for any reason — as long as it is before 3:00 pm the day before the tour.
  • Cancel up to 3:00 pm the day before for a 70% refund (30% administration fee). After that, or if you do not show up, there is no refund: everything is reserved for you and the seat cannot be resold.
  • If we cancel — weather, safety or force majeure — you choose a new date or a full refund.

Questions

Shared or private — what is the difference?
Shared: when we have a confirmed day tour that morning, you can join it for the sunrise part only — $45 per person. After breakfast, a second vehicle takes you back to your hotel while the rest of the group carries on to the city. Private: your own vehicle and guide, any day, and the freedom to walk further into the valley — from $65 per person with five or six people, $150 for one.
Is the shared option available every day?
Only on days when the day tour is confirmed, so it depends on availability. Write on WhatsApp with your date: if there is a group that morning, you are in; if not, we offer you the private version.
Can we walk more if we go private?
Yes — that is the main reason to go private. The ridge viewpoint, or the full circuit if you have the legs: we extend the morning as far as you want to walk.
How cold is it?
In the dry season, 0 to 5 °C at first light. Bring a windproof layer and something for your hands; the vehicle is heated and the sun warms things fast once it is up.
Is this the same as the start of the day tour?
Yes. Same sunrise, same ridge, same breakfast. The day tour then continues to Valle de la Luna and the city; this one takes you home.
